BAR SOAP GETS A BAD RAP!!
Share
Soap gets a bad rap, but let's take a look at natural cold process soap vs commercial. Cold process soap has many healthy skin benefits. Most cold process soaps are made with natural ingredients and because of the high fat content, there is added moisture and gentle cleansing. This soap also has a creamy texture with nourishing, luxurious lather. Adding essential oils gives a healing, relaxing effect. Cold process soaps with essential oils can be considered environmentally sustainable, leaving no harmful chemicals. Natural glycerin is produced during the saponification process, when lye and fat go through a chemical reaction to absorb the lye. (Just a note: we use food grade lye which is used in food such as, pretzels, bagels, olives, etc.) Great soap choice for sensitive skin or allergies. Cold process soap could be a little more pricey, because of the natural ingredients, but worth your health.
On the other hand, commercial soaps have several drawbacks. They usually contain harsh, chemicals, i.e synthetic fragrances and synthetic preservatives which can be irritating to the skin and strips away natural oils. Triclosan and synthetic preservatives, for example, have the potential of being hormonal disruptors, which potentially can cause reproductive issues or cancer risks. Synthetic fragrances can cause neurological and hormonal disruptions. Some commercial soaps may also have the ingredient of formaldehyde which has the potential of causing cancer and can cause skin irritations. These soaps can be dangerous to the environment because of non-biodegradable ingredients.
